Our Team

Our staff is comprised of people from diverse backgrounds and experiences drawn together by a common mission, to help people to live abundant lives.

Our resident aides are the men and women who are the backbone of Harbor House Ministries. With more than eighty-five direct care supporters, we are fortunate to work with amazing people. Here are just a few of their stories.

Peggy Driesenga
Executive Director
Peggy has a background in marketing, public relations and broadcast journalism. She has been with Harbor House Ministries since 2005 as the Community Relations Director where she worked in development, accreditation and compliance. In March of 2020, Peggy became the Executive Director at Harbor House Ministries.
Renee Veltema
Finance Manager
Renee has a background in accounting and has been with Harbor House since it was just an idea. She has served on the board, as the Administrative Assistant, and became the Executive Director in 2013 and served in that role until February, 2020. In 2020, Renee decided that finance is the work she most enjoys. She became the Finance Manager in February of 2020.
Renee Lanning, BSN
Clinical Director
Renee has been the Clinical Director at Harbor House Ministries since we opened our doors. Prior to coming to Harbor House, Renee worked as a nurse in a local hospital.
Julie Mesman
Human Resources Manager
Julie has worked in the human resources field since 2011. She joined the Harbor House Ministries team in 2020 and serves as the Human Resource Manager, Hiring Manager, and Compliance Officer. She also oversees the scheduling department.
Lisa Merchant
Office Manager
Lisa has a background in Special Education. She has been with Harbor House for 13 years and has worked as both a Resident Aide and a Lead Aide. Lisa handles a variety of office duties.
Rachael Hoekstra
Development Coordinator
Rachael joined Harbor House Ministries in 2022. She brings ten years of experience in fundraising and marketing to the table and is looking forward to connecting with our families and supporters to aid in the development of a robust financial picture for our organization.
Kimberly Hassevoort
Clerical Assistant
Kimberly has recently joined the Harbor House family. Kimberly has a background in clerical and accounting work.
Betty Koning
Betty has been with Harbor House Ministries since it opened its doors. She has been a Resident Aide and a Lead Aide she has also worked in elder care.
Samantha Warners, MA
Home Supervisor, Pier Place
Samantha has been with Harbor House for five years. She has a background in Medical Administration. Samantha has also worked as a Resident Aide and a Lead Aide.
Kristen Booth, RMA
Home Supervisor, Beacon Place
Kristen has been with Harbor House Ministries since July 2013.  She also worked at Spectrum Health, Zeeland Hospital on the Med-surg, Pediatrics floor.
Jessica Plochocki
Home Supervisor, Beacon Place
Jessica has been at Harbor House for more than ten years and has worked as a Resident Aide and a Lead Aide. Jennifer became a Home Supervisor in 2020.
Cara Vink, RN
Home Supervisor
Cara Vink has been with Harbor House Ministries since 2014 while she was attending Calvin College.  She graduated this spring with her BSN degree and has received her RN License.
Kathy Gates
Home Supervisor, Anchor Place
Kathy has been at Harbor House for ten years and has worked as a resident aide and as a Lead Aide in two of our homes. Kathy has been a Home Supervisor at Anchor Place since 2017.
